Light is one of the fundamental
elements that make images attractive in art. I have loved experimenting with portraying light and how it interacts with our
memory and senses. I love seeing how the camera captures light. In my Metro series, I have found photographs that capture
the light as it dominates a dark, urban space and I replicate them with paint on canvas. The subway, bus stops, busy intersections
vibrate with the accent of light. This ongoing study yields pleasing results. Starting with the darkness, I add the light
back in, reminding us that it is the light in which we delight.
In my most recent body of work, I continue to explore light and color. Capturing
memories in the glow of dusk and streetlights is a challenge that is worthy for my growth. The complexity of memories as they
relate to light haunts me, and gives me pause over and over to practice their relationship and fine tune my technical
ability. Color has always been my companion, and now it spurs me forward to take on more difficult architechtural subjects
like the homes and horizons that surround me on the Southside of Chattanooga.
